Profile of Toha and 3DCG Life

Hi, my name is Toha.

I am a 3DCG artist who has worked in the gaming industry for 10 years and graduated from my company in April 2019.

It may seem like a bit of a waste of time since he quit the company, but he is currently working on blog management and game application production with the goal of "becoming able to make a living as an individual 3DCG artist.

Profile of Toha

I worked as a 3DCG artist for 10 years in a game-related company, but before that, I worked for a general company doing things like expense management.

While working every day at work with Excel open, I could not give up my dream of becoming a game creator, which I had once given up on, and jumped into the game industry through a technical college with no experience in 3DCG.

Here is a rough history of the Toha up to the present day.

Business Number of Employees years of service
First company manufacturing industry About 70,000 2003-2007 (4.5 years)

Second company game development About 40 2008-2014 (6 years)

Third company 3DCG production subcontractor About 30 2014-2019.4 (4.5 years)

Fourth, individuals Blog, game creation, etc. One! 2019.5~

After attending a 3DCG technical school for six months while working at the first company, I somehow managed to fulfill my dream and landed a job at a game company.

After changing jobs once, I went on to work for a third company, and while I was enjoying my work, I kept thinking about it.

"How old do you have to be to do this job?"

I wonder if I will still be going to work every day and continuing to make 3DCG when I am 40 or 50 years old?
It was something a bit unimaginable as a Toha.

Then I thought about it a lot,"To be able to make a living as a 3DCG artist on my own."was the goal.

Specifically, I wonder if I could make a living writing blog and creating personal game apps...?

...and I was thinking about it, but I finally took action.

In May 2019, Toha will begin working as an individual.

About Toha's blog "3DCG Life"

This blog is

Aiming to make a living in 3DCG while also supporting those who aspire to do so!

This is the concept that we are working on.

This blog itself is one of the means to achieve Toha's goal, "to be able to make a living as a 3DCG artist on my own," but there are many things I want to do through the blog, which can be summarized as follows.

  1. We want to support people who want to become 3DCG designers even if they have no experience.
  2. I want to support people who start working as 3DCG designers in the game industry.
  3. I want to send out information about the game production I'm going to work on.
  4. I'd like to earn a little income from my blog if possible.

Toha became a 3DCG artist with no experience at all and worked for a game-related company for 10 years.

On top of that, I am now looking for a way to make a living in 3DCG as an individual, not as a company employee.

However, I was allowed to work in 3DCG for the 10 years I was with the company, and I learned a lot during that time.

Through this blog, I hope to share what I have experienced and learned so far with those who are aspiring to become 3DCG artists or those who have started working as 3DCG artists in their companies.

Why would they do that?

The reason for this is that I myself have learned a lot from my seniors in the company, and sometimes with the help of information on the Internet. I think...

If someone taught me, I should teach someone else too.

And even though I have been doing 3DCG for 10 years, there is still so much I don't know. I am still in a position to learn a lot.

Teaching someone else leads to opportunities for you to be taught too.

So I would like to share what I know, even if only a little at a time. It might be useful for something.

In fact, even extremely knowledgeable designers may not know a few things. It's just that they didn't have the chance to know about it by chance, and I just happened to have the chance to know about it.

I believe that if we can teach each other what we know and what we don't know and grow together, it should be a good thing for both parties to benefit from it.

I would be happy if this blog could be a place for such a "trigger".
