What Are 3 Things Absolutely Need To In Life? - A Story Of The Question Asked Job Interview

About six years after becoming a 3DCG artist for a game company, Toha was looking for a new job.

I applied to so many companies that I thought it was a lie that it was easy to change jobs in the 3DCG field to another company in the same industry.

This article is an actual story from that second job interview.

I'm writing about Toha's thoughts based on my experiences.
If it were me, how would I respond? It might be a little interesting to think about it!

It was a second job interview for a 3DCG production company

gasp

Hiring interviews are always nerve-wracking.
Moreover, it was the second interview and the other party was a company executive. I was very nervous.

The company executives who called me in for the interview were also friendly, but the questions they asked were somewhat unique.

  • What kind of person do you think you are to those around you?
  • Does the image of yourself that you have of yourself match the image of yourself that those around you have of you?
  • Tell me why I should hire you.

Such as.
Apart from the usual interview questions about motivation and the like, I was asked something like this.

One of the most powerful questions that struck me was this one.

If you had to name three things in your life that you absolutely cannot miss, what would they be?"

If you had to name three things in your life that you absolutely cannot miss...?

......?

I had been a bit flustered by all the unexpected questions, but I had no idea that I would be asked such a question in the second job interview!

What can't be removed from my life...?

I had honestly never thought about it before, so there was no way I could come up with a quick idea, and I completely froze up during the second interview.

A board member, unable to look at poor Toha, offer a helping hand, saying, "Anything is fine, for example, family, hobbies, that kind of thing..."

I was blanked out, but when I heard the words "family and hobbies", I thought to myself, that's okay? Finally, my head starts.

In this way, Toha was able to answer, surprisingly, three things that cannot be removed from his life.

Toha replied.

  1. Being around family, friends, and people I love.
  2. Being able to play occasionally, such as playing a favorite game.
  3. Being able to do the work I love.

The three things we need in life are totally different from person to person

Hm-hmm...

The impact of that question was so strong that I don't remember at all what they asked me in the interview after that.

After the interview, when I started to feel a little better, I decided to talk to someone about the question anyway! So I told my friends.

Some of my friends answered the questions as we talked, and the answers were all very different. Some said money, some said travel, and some said good food.

As a matter of course, the "absolute necessities in life" differ from person to person.

Each person has his or her own needs, and I have my own needs.

If you had to name three things in your life that you absolutely cannot miss, what would they be?"

If you hadn't asked me this question, I don't think I would bother to think about what I need in my life.
But even if we have never thought about it, it may exist subconsciously in everyone.

So, Toha was probably able to answer the question when asked in the job interview.

Three things you need in life are become guide your way

silent

I was asked to think about what I needed to do in life in an unexpected situation, and although I answered on the spur of the moment, this felt strangely right even to me.

I had never thought about it before, but when I tried to put into words the three things necessary for life, it suddenly became clear to me, "Oh, I see."

I have changed my place of employment three times in my career, and as I recall, it was always "when I couldn't do a job I liked" that I took that action.

Now and then, in the end, I think this is all that is necessary for Toha to live happily.

  1. Being around family, friends, and people I love.
  2. Being able to play occasionally, such as playing a favorite game.
  3. Being able to do the work I love.

No, no, you can't live on this, you need money to make a living.

Certainly money is an absolute necessity for everyone.

But the amount needed varies from person to person.

The amount of money that Toha needs to live happily is enough to be able to live like that, being with the people I love and being able to buy and play his favorite games from time to time.

If I can provide the amount of money that will allow me to make that living from a job that I love, then there is nothing more to say.

Three things that are absolutely necessary for one's life.

When I am not sure about my career path or future choices, I now think that this will be my guide.

Everyone has anxiety about the future, and no matter how hard you try, it will never go away. However, if you can narrow it down to three or so things that are absolutely necessary for your life, I think you will be able to live quite simply.

I also realize that what we need in life is different for each of us, so comparing ourselves to someone else is not very meaningful.

Can you meet the needs of your life to guide the way? Can you protect them? That's all you need to know.

Well, life is what it is, and there are times when the three things you need may switch, or your priorities and circumstances may change. It is even possible that you or a family member may become ill and suddenly need a large sum of money.

I have no idea what is going to happen in the future, but I am going to try to do what I can, little by little, for now.

The signposts for Toha may seem vague, but they are quite clear.

Conclusion

♪

This 3DCG production company, where the second interview was so impressive, became Toha's third place of employment after a while.

I worked with the board member in the example for a while, but he left the company to take over the family business two years after Toha joined.

I am sure that he followed his path and chose his path.

During my job search, I sometimes felt depressed because I could not find a new job, but in the end, I am glad that I did.

Because if I had been able to change jobs early, I would not have applied to this company and would not have been asked these questions in the hiring interview.

I think it must have been such a "fate" that brought us together.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to this company and its board members for giving me the opportunity to think about the "three things I absolutely need in my life.
